Last Post!

Top Four Poems.

1. "Paradoxes and Oxymorons" by John Ashbery
2. "Weighing In" by Rhina Espaillat
3. "Grand Central, Track 23" by Elizabeth Skurnik
4. "Branch Library" by Edward Hirsch

The first poem to get crossed off the list was "Branch Library" by Edward Hirsch. I basically chose this poem because I didn't understand what the heck was going on. The animation as well as the actual poem is really weird. I liked it, but I liked the other ones better. The second one to go was "Grand Central, Track 23" by Elizabeth Skurnik. I really did like this poem. It had good imaging and flowed nicely. The animation was so pretty. But, in my opinion, it didn't surpass "Paradoxes and Oxymorons" by John Ashbery. This is the next poem to go. I loved this one. It made you think and seemed to have a purpose. And, I loved the way it was read on the video. But, the best poem I watched was "Weighing In" by Rhina Espalliat. It was just so interesting and unique. The things she talked about in her poem never even crossed my mind. And, the animation was very well done. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/poetryeverywhere/uwm/espaillat.html

Blog Post 4

I liked this story for one main reason. I enjoyed it because of the character descriptions. Even though this story was only a few minutes long, you feel like you know the characters quite well. Especially the person who is telling the story. His attitude is quite pessimistic which gives the story a humorous tone. Also, the characters are very different from each other. But, they seem to be the typical people you would meet on a bus (if that makes sense). The fat bus driver, the crazy lady, the guy who won't be quiet, and the person who considers himself better than all of them. It is somewhat stereotypical which makes it funny and interesting to read.

Blog Post 3

Personally, I find Kehinde Wiley’s paintings kind of odd. I don't think I have ever seen two such different art genres mashed into one. It is certainly interesting. But, I find it weird. My mom is an artist, so I have been brought up to appreciate all forms of art. So, I see the effort and originality put into these pieces but I can't find myself admiring the art itself.

This first image is very similar to the backgrounds in Wiley's paintings. It is a baroque design. Patterns such as these are used in all three pictures we viewed.

In all his paintings there is a featured person. This is similar to both Baroque and French Rococo. As you see in the picture below, there is a lot of detail but the people are the center of attention. This is a very famous Baroque painting by Diego Velasquez in 1656.

Here is the final picture. This is one of Wiley's pictures. As you can see by the background, he incorporates the Baroque style as well as adding in his own ideas. It makes it very unique.

Bansky's Art

1.My first reaction was one of amazement. This art is really unique and I LOVE it. It is almost as if he is telling us that life isn't something you always have to take so seriously. His art is light and happy.
2.In my opinion graffiti is definitely art. It is actually quite difficult to do. I believe that people question whether it is art or not because of how we define art. It is quite different from other genres of art. But, in my opinion, it is a very unique, interesting, and beautiful form of art .
When an artist has a different name, it creates mystery and intrigue to their art.
   3. It is very important to display your talent to other people. Talents are meant to be shared and not concealed. What is the point of being a magnificent artist if people will never see or enjoy your work? I don't think there are any limits when it comes to showing your creativity in public. My favorite bit of artwork by Bansky is below.

This picture represents my favorite type of photography. It's black and white photography. For some reason black and white photos have always been my favorites. I am not sure who took this picture, but it certainly displays a lot of feeling.
For me, many black and white photos represent the idea of seeing the world in a new way. Instead of capturing the color of the world, you look at it from a whole new angle. The light and shadows are extremely obvious and provide incredible contrast.
This particular photo is taken at a slightly awkward angle. It's as if your actually in the picture. This illusion is seen in many pictures. In my opinion is works even better with black and white photography because of the details and textures that are shown when you take out the color.
